1. Kitchen is the place from where most germ spread in the house. The kitchen sponge which is generally used in most of the Indian kitchen is one of the thing which is likely to be spread germs. Keep your sponge and dishrags dry and clean, clean utensil before you turn in for the night, remove all trace of food on them,was the sink of kitchen with good antibacterial soap etc.
2. For eating any fruits or vegetables  first wash them properly because this is one of the important way of spread germs.
3. Wash your hand immediatly after handling raw meat. Don’t touch even a single fruit or vegetable before hand wash as it might spread infection.Use only running water to wash them.
4. Wear suitable head covering while cooking or tie up your hair properly. Never use comb in the kitchen while cooking the food.
5. While coughing or sneezing always use tissue and throw the tissue immediately.Dispose the used tissue promptly and wash your hand again.
6. Change your underclothes as often as possible. Try to wash it regularly with antiseptic liquid and dry it in the sun light.
7. To improve your home’s air quality, open windows to let in fresh air. Install exhaust vent in the kitchen and bathrooms.This will help air circulations and keep your space relatively germs free.
8. Try to wash the toys of the kids regularly with good medicated liquid.
9. Wash your feet thoroughly at least once a day and dry care fully, especially between the toes where most of the bacteria collect.
10. Carpet are a heaven for dust and micro organism. In hot, humid climates, it’s best to switch to hardy cottons durries on hard woods floors.

My Verdict

Karan Johar once gave us a line: It’s all about loving your parents. Well it seems a lot of water has passed under the bridge and the new funda seems to be It’s all about loving your Family and extended family too.

There are a lot of irregularities and flaws with the latest Dharma Production product, but there are some good stuff too.The characters live in Australia yet seem to speak impeccable Hindi.

We are Family – The Storyline

We see divorced couple Aman (Arjun Rampal, half-awake) and Maya (Kajol) at their child’s school annual day. Their little girl Anjali (cute as an angel, Diya Sonecha), in the middle of the act on stage, spots her mom in the audience and says ‘Mama, hiii!’. It’s a touching moment, and the film has a few more.

Aman’s character is a mixed one: He’s clearly not a hands-on dad, preferring to meet his three children over the weekends. He also insensitively chooses little Anjali’s birthday to introduce his new girlfriend Shreya (Kareena Kapoor) to the family.

So while you dislike him for a display of insensitivity to everyone in his life, you admire his faithful friendship towards his ex-wife, even as he drops everything to be with her when she’s diagnosed with a terminal illness(Cervical Cancer). Maya then hits upon the idea of warming up her kids to Shreya whom they hate, so she can take over as their replacement mom.

But the dialogue is a let-down. Each character keeps saying, “Tum aisa nahin kar sakti, you can’t die,” to Maya, as if it were a choice.

And then, when Maya is convincing Shreya to give taking care of the kids a shot, Shreya shoots back, “Main ek career-woman hoon, mom-type nahin.” It’s a ridiculous bit of dialogue; outdated and one that an entire span of working mothers will wonder over.

Again, the whole trip about the urgency of finding a substitute mother is strange when they have their father hale- and-hearty. It again reinforces the cliche that you need another woman to pack the kids’ lunch and pick them up from school, and the father, however he may love the kids, just can’t manage.

And this film is an unabashed attempt at extracting your sniffs and sobs, and sometimes the effort at doing so is too apparent.

The manipulation shows in scenes like the one where the kids are ushered in to see their mother, all tubes and pipes, on a hospital bed. The strategy works; you do cry but not whole-heartedly, more as a reflex response to the sobbing faces onscreen. In fact, you might let out a tired laugh when the effort goes overboard.

Performances of the Actors and Actresses

If there is one reason to see the movie it’s KAJOL, KAJOL AND KAJOL. She is arguably the most gifted actress of all times and she doesn’t disappoint. She is simply amazing. She is the real star of the movie. Like all her performances she is impeccable in the role of Maya as well. Her portrayal of a mother of three who is gonna die soon is just marvellous. Her emotions, her timing her break is fantastic. She leaves us wanting more. Wonder if she considers doing more movies. Kajol is even more convincing than Susan Sarandun, who played the original role in Step-Mom.

Kareena is good. In fact she is on fire, but she plays the second fiddle to Kajol. If it was some other actress Kareena would have walked away with all the accolades. Her on-screen chemistry with Kajol is fantastic and that’s what the soul of the movie is. Arjun Rampal is Ok, but looks good as always. He is the one who has faced the real Step motherly treatment. Well but that was expected too. The kids are fine.

Debut director Siddharth Malhotra serves us old wine in a new, expensive bottle. It’s evident in the characterisation, the dated dialogue, and the choice of the heavy-duty background score where you hear a woman’s alaap for the most part; a mainstay in our saas-bahu soaps. If you’ve been pining for an old-fashioned tear-jerker, this one’s for you.

Sling Shot has a good look, though the looks seem to be borrowed from several bikes. The best thing I liked about this bike is the alloy wheels (wheels with spokes are also available), which are pretty stylish as compared to any other bike seen so far.

Needless to say, it has a 4-stroke, air-cooled engine; electric stat feature too is available. Braking mechanism is Mechanical, Drum Type, with a fuel tank capacity of 12.0 Liters, with a reserve of 2.1 Liters. Sling Shot is 5-speedtransmission bike, with 1up and 4down arrangement.

Talking about the prices, the Ex showroom price of alloy model in Mumbai is Rs.48, 142 whereas the one with spokes wheel will cost Rs.46, 253.

My Verdict :

Nagesh Kukunoor is known to make films which talk about the spirit of life. His films IQBAL and DOR had his exceptional touch and beautifully captured the various shades of life and its celebration. AASHAYEIN (Hope) is another attempt by the filmmaker on the same lines. Though he fails miserably.

Aashayein Story :

Aashayein begins with a promising track shot taking the audience from an old house to a den of bookies in an old and dilapidated courtyard. The opening shot is so fantastic that it raises your aashayein, only to have them dashed soon after.

The story of a compulsive gambler (we hardly see the obsession with gambling), Aashayein is a confused hotchpotch of many messages, none hard enough to hit you.

Meet the Actors and their Roles

John Abraham as Rahul Sharma – An angry, drop-dead gorgeous, confused, compulsive gambler. Wishes to live the life he has been dreaming of. Sonal Sehgal as Nafisa – Doting, loving, loyal girlfriend. Wishes that love always wins.

Prateeksha Lonkar as Sister Grace – She will bend her principles for the greater good. Wishes to dedicate her life for the happiness of her inmates. Girish Karnad as Parthasarthi – Fun loving, “uncle” to everyone, stupidly stubborn on his principles. Wishes to be reunited with his family.

Farida Jalal as Madhu – Intelligent, virtuous, loving. Wishes to just lead a normal life and not be ostracized.

Ashwin Chitale as Govinda – Ten years old, loves comics, mangoes and tells stories. Wishes that everyone’s life be just like a comic book.

Ashwin Chitale is child actor who starred in the Marathi film Shwaas. Anaitha Nair as Padma – She is impetuous, obnoxious, full of life. Wishes to experience love.

The film is devoid of any script and looks like the director (Kukunoor) had so much footage that he used every bit of it in the asha  that some of it will make sense. We do see the good John can do when you manage to look away from the hunk’s dimples. In the first half he is an extension of his real-life image, while the second half sees his transformation into an actor.

Towards the end you start doubting his acting skills again. The people he meets in the hospice add colour, both dark and bright, to his journey, which is one about love, hate, life, death and above all, hope.

Aashayein, whose release was delayed by almost two years, is so hopeless that you wish it had remained in the cans forever. Its hard to believe that the film maker who gave path-breaking movies like Hyderabad blues, Rockford and Iqbal has given us Aashayein.

Richard Stallman is in India next month, and is going to deliver a lecture at Swathanthra 1.0, which is an event, organized by Swathanthra, a free softwares users group at the St. Joseph’s College of Engineering and Technology. According to the official Swanthanthra webpage –

New Delhi, 20th August, 2010 – The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today issued a Consultation Paper on Technical Interoperability of DTH Set Top Boxes.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has requested TRAI to review its recommendations – “Interoperability and Other Issues relating to DTH” dated 30th  January, 2008. The Consultation paper discusses the architecture of Set Top Box, relevant standards and the various issues on technical interoperability. Stakeholders are requested to offer their valuable comments by 7th Sept. 2010 and counter-comments by 12th Sept.2010.
