This sounds very odd but Flipkart has introduced DELIVERY OF CASH (DOC) service which is like ATM on the wheels. So when you don’t have time to go to ATM around you, all you need is call in the Flipkart guys and ask for money. They will reach your doorstep with said amount of cash and you can pay back them instantly using your Debit or Credit card.

Now this service hasn’t really rolled out for all the users and seems to be getting tested internally. The official home page for DOC is listed here. The beta for this service will be launched soon, so make sure to keep an eye on the page.

DOC sounds more like emergency service to me and it will have its own limitation.

The service talks about delivering cash to door step. This means you cannot just call them anywhere. So unless you are really out of Luck for ATM (Broken ATM Machines) and need good amount of cash, you wont be calling them.

This is a cash service which means you will have to pay for the service tax + something extra. Even though how much is not clear, I am sure it will be something moderate. That way the service wont be misused all the time.

I am waiting for the service to launch and try it. Being one of its kind and that from Flipkart, this will be interesting.

Even if you have EMV enabled CC, its going to work as it was working before. At least that’s what my bank says Even when 3D secure pin was enabled, Some of the websites could charge you without asking for 3D secure Pin. The logic is same. Even if you have EMV Credit Cards with PIN, it will work on any online transactions.

All of a sudden my HDFC bank decided me to send a new CC even though the expiry date is due late. When it arrived, I was surprised to see that there is a Micro SIM inserted in it. Out of curiosity, I called in my bank. They said this is the new security feature which will make sure no body will be able to copy your CC into a blank CC and use it as they like.

Next, I went ahead and tried to check if any of the government website has more info. Luckily RBI has this information straight on the face.

It seems that RBI is getting tough with the use of Debit and Credit Card, specially on International level. Not only they want to restrict the amount of transaction that can be authorized on the card but also take them completely off for International usage.

Can you use the new EMV Enabled Credit & Debit Cards Online ?

There are some myths floating around that the new Credit Card cannot be used in online transaction i.e. Online Shopping website. I called in my bank, and it turned out to be totally incorrect.

So here are some basic facts you should know:

The New Chip system or EMV Chip is to protect your transaction when used with a payment machine. This makes sure that nobody can copy the data on your CC and you are available when the transaction is being processed. Yes you need to be there to enter your PIN like when you had used your debit card.

EMV Chip enabled credit cards will work fine when it comes to online transactions. They are however protected by your verified by Visa Password or 3D secure pin i.e bank’s secure site for identification verification.

Since this EMV Chip machines are not available at all shops and hotels, my Credit Card has option for both EMV and Swipe. I guess the bank might have taken this hybrid method as the merchants get time to upgrade themselves. However, the bank instructed that if I get an option of using EMV, I better use that.

There is a list of rules set by RBI for Credit and Debit Cards. I am just helping you understand it a bit better.

RBI Says:

All new debit and credit cards to be issued only for domestic usage unless international use is specifically sought by the customer. Such cards enabling international usage will have to be essentially EMV Chip and Pin enabled. (By June 30, 2013)

Issuing banks should convert all existing MagStripe cards to EMV Chip card for all customers who have used their cards internationally at least once (for/through e- commerce/ATM/POS) (By June 30, 2013)

All the active Magstripe international cards issued by banks should have threshold limit for international usage. The threshold should be determined by the banks based on the risk profile of the customer and accepted by the customer (By June 30, 2013). Till such time this process is completed an omnibus threshold limit (say, not exceeding USD 500) as determined by each bank may be put in place for all debit cards and all credit cards that have not been used for international transactions in the past.

My Understanding:

1) It depends on your bank if you can have International transactions enabled on your CC or not. It’s a good thing to restrict because for many International transactions might not be the requirement.

2) In case you have already used your CC Internationally, You will be getting the new EVM enabled CC soon. However, if you do not, ask your bank.

3) Again it depends on your bank, your bank account and your relationship with the bank.

Share your thoughts. Let me know what do you think about this. Did you face any issue with the new EVM enabled Credit Cards ?

Flyte, one of the popular Music Download service by Flipkart is celebrating their first anniversary. They are giving away 100+ Albums (DRM free) on your devices without paying anything. The giveaway will continue till February 28th.

Surprisingly, the albums are not un-popular music but some of the latest music albums like Barfi, Fashion, Gangs Of Wasseypur
Taare Zameen Par etc. They are broadly categorized into Regional, Devotions, Jazz, Bollywood Ajj Kal. Gazals, Sufi, Rock, Hip-Hop, R& B, Pop Icons etc.

Another thing to know here is that these giveaways keep changing every day. So you don’t have to download everything but only what you love.

These albums can be downloaded using the Web Interface where you can keep adding them to your MP3 Library and download it later. Other option is to use your Apps on Android, Windows 8 and iPhone / iPad.

Now for those who are wondering whats the catch, I did not get any. There should be some but I am just not sure yet. As of now I see the albums getting included in the library, download the high quality of songs etc.

However they are still bounded by the fact that the number of download is limited to Four. So if you download it once, you make sure to have a copy on your computer all the time. Download the Music from here.

Finally something which will not only save lot of paper but is also a relief to travellers who for some reason were not able to take print out of the ticket and had to pay a hefty amount of Rs 100 per page which was recently increased from Rs 50.

Aviation Ministry of India has announced that from today i.e. January 1, 2013 you can show your tickets to the security using your mobile devices, laptops or tablets. However you will need to carry a Photo id as usual.

This is indeed a great move but I see a lot of trouble happening when you show your ticket on your mobile phone as most of them don’t fit on-screen and zooming, swiping is not what security guards are used to. So initially the flyers will have to help out the guards to clearly show the tickets and make everybody comfortable. So if the guard is taking a long time to clear the queue, you know what is the reason.

According to HT, Aviation Ministry also wants to crop out Tagging and stamping of cabin baggage which means you will have to manually go and identify your luggage like old times. This process is not only painful but also takes a lot of time because the baggage doesn’t get loaded unless the final mark has been made.

The government has issued a stern warning that a household owning more than one LPG connection and not submitting the KYC form by the end of this month will not be able to avail of the cooking fuel at subsidised rates. Most of Indian houses have multiple connection because of the high demand and low availability of the LPG.

However on my Visit to the supplier, I did found that KYC was not compulsory for everybody. The gas companies are listing names of such customer and seems to be notifying them over call or using their transparency report.

How to check whether you need to submit KYC form:

If you have more than one LPG connection, you should submit your KYC form. However, you can make a check if you actually need to submit the form or not. Most of the LPG Suppliers have a website (through GAS TRANSPARENCY PORTAL) where this information can be validated.

Go to your respective suppliers website and look for a link or search form which says “Multiple Connection. You will need to search according to your consumer no or check out the transparency report where names of customers who need to fill in the KYC form are listed. Below is an example of Indane.

Most of the time what you need is to fill the form by providing your customer number, distributor’s name, city, and state. In few minutes you will get to know weather you need or need not to give your KYC form.

If you name is listed, you can download your KYC form from the Indane and Hindustan petroleum

What is Know your customer (KYC):

KYC means “Know your Customer”, is a term used for customer identification process. It involves making reasonable efforts to decide true identity of the person. KYC has two components - Identity and Address. While identity remains the same, the address may change and hence the company are required to periodically update their records.

According to the government:

Only those customers whose names seem in the respective oil marketing company’s (OMC) Transparency Portal as identified using /holding multiple LPG connections (the list is also available with your LPG distributor) need to submit the KYC details along with POI and POA before the revised deadline of 31st of December 2012. Customers whose names do not appear in the transparency portal of oil companies as Multiple Connection Holders or in the list available with your distributor need not, repeat need not, submit the KYC details. The transparency portals of the respective OMC can be accessed through their websites in this website.

However, customer having single LPG connection need not, therefore, rush to their distributors to submit their KYC details as they are not required to do so as of now.

The extended date for filling the KYC formalities is 31.12.2012. The LPG gas connection of multiple connection holders who fail to furnish the KYC forms by this date, will be converted into Non Domestic Exempt Categories rate connections, Lakshmi said. While a subsidised LPG cylinder weighing 14.2 kg costs Rs 410.50 in Delhi, the non-subsidised one is available only at around Rs 900.

Kerala is one of the most beautiful city which I have ever seen. Its Beauty, Ayurvedic treatment, different forms of performing art, its Historical and cultural monuments, its back water and its wild life make it quite different from other states of India.

I had the opportunity to experience the beauty of back water and wondrous experience of House boat in Kerala. So today, I want to discuss my experience with you all and some of the fact that you should know before going to house boat.

Alleppey and its back water are one of the most popular tourist spots in Kerala. Even though its around 140 years old, It is an ideal place to picnic with family.

About House Boat:

House Boat has all the luxury services and comforts of a good hotel including furnished bedrooms, modern toilets, cozy living rooms, a kitchen and even a balcony for relaxing and enjoying the back water.

There is a team of three people always on board along with your family. The first one is the captain who takes the boat around the backwater and shows different things and natural beauty. The second person is the cook who will get your food on time and third person helps both captain and cook for many things.

Once you leave the shore, the houseboat roams around the backwater and there are no shops or land to get down. So it is vital to carry everything you will need, so you do not have to curse yourself later. So here are the facts that you should understand before the trip.

Reaching Time: Try to check in before 12 at noon in the Houseboat boat because after sunset the house boat is stationed and parked. The reason behind are the fisherman who start laying the fishing net which is only collected back in the morning.

So if, you want to spend more time in the back water and experience the real beauty of back water, check in the houseboat as soon as possible.

Household items: You may need some household items such as medicine kits, good night machine or coil, detergent powder, sun glasses, sunscreen, sun hat etc.

One of the most notable thing that you should take is torch. Torch will be required as the houseboat will be park in the dark place, and there will be no power facility outside the house boat.

Food items: Plan your meal before starting the house boat. Once the house boat will be start you will unable to purchase any fruits or groceries.

So its better to take along some of the food items that you may want to ask the cook to prepare for you. Remember these are apart from whatever is already ordered with the kitchen.

Indoor Games: Try to get some indoor games like Ludo, chess, Chinese checkers, cards, books etc. You can enjoy these indoor activities during the evening hours. I am sure it will be fun. However, Carom will be provided in the house boat itself.

Generator Facility: The houseboat when roaming around the backwater uses generator to keep the lights and fans in running state. So if you wish to take a nap during day time with AC turned on, it wont be possible.

However, when the boat is parked, it is connected to a Power Supply all night making sure that you can use AC, Fans, Music System, TV etc. In our experience we saw some voltage fluctuation in house boat during the night hours but it was pretty less.

Clothes: Warm clothing for the evening. It can become quite cool on the lake any time of year. Days are quite bright and don’t need woollen clothes in day but in night you certainly need some woollen clothes. Try to bring water proof bags or can take zip lock container as they can be used for wet clothes.

Here are some of the things that will provided by the houseboat.

Pots

Pans

Dishes, glassware

Flatware, cooking utensils

Dish soap, sponges and dish towels

Sheets, pillows, blankets

Bath towels

We have enjoyed a lot, so enjoy your trip and share your experience with us!! Have a great journey.

When it comes to broadband speed in India, it really is slow except in few cities in India like Hyderabad where you get 10 MBPS Speed at Rs 1000. Thanks to our broadband providers who lag innovation and still are relying on old hardware and infrastructure. However, it seems like Airtel is finally changing its strategy and bring faster broadband to India as good as 100MBPS speed in certain areas of Delhi. No doubt here that it’s based on Fiber Cable!!!

Pricing of 100MBPS :It will cost you 5999 for 175GB data cap and you will get a speed of 512 KBPS after that.

Pricing of 80 MPBS : It will cost you 3999 for 80GB data cap and you will get a speed of 512 KBPS after that.

Now since these are Fiber Cables, you might have to pay something for upgrading wires etc which I am really not sure but you can call in the help line to ask the details.

What if you cannot get 100 or 80 MBPS line ?

Like I said, this plan is not available in all the cities and in all the areas of cities where the plan is rolled out because its needs a hardware upgrade. So what is your best option ? To find it out please visit this Airtel broadband plan finder and search for your area and look for better plans and you will be surprised that you don’t have to pay thousands more to double your internet plan and increase data limit.

Currently I have a plan of 4MBPS with data cap of 20GB at a price of 1400 and now Airtel is providing 8 MBPS plan is available at a price for 1599 with 30GB data cap which is pretty awesome.

For few cities, you can upgrade to 16MBPS plan on your exiting connection which is based or copper wire. Getting a 16MBPS plan at this price rate for India is amazing stuff. We never had such speed at these prices.

So if you are in need of such high-speed broadband and download lot of stuff from internet and watch a lot of YouTube videos, having this is a great fun. Plus you now have multiple devices which connect with internet these days which can be your phone or laptop or your smart tv, so getting this makes sense.

According to the news flashing on DD News which I cited this morning, Government has issued notice to ISP to block around 254 Websites in India and may take action against Twitter which has not yet co-operated to help government find the source of messages that was sent against North East Indian in recent SMS havoc.

The sites which are blocked are not regular websites but mostly related for sending out Bulk SMS. Later when I checked on CNN-IBN News portal, the news seems to be confirmed which also reported arrest of one such person in this matter.

Surprisingly the source of havoc SMS and other disturbing messages came from Pakistan for which YouTube and Facebook has already confirmed according to DEIT

TRAI recently had to put a limit again on the number of SMS that can be sent across and it seems to be still there which doesn’t sound to be solution but was required at time of crisis.

All these issues are now making government even more angry towards the social media sites as they do help in faster propagation of news and is valid for any situation and in any country. We will have to see what happens next as this has triggered the Social Media issue yet again and government might get very strong this time.
